My good friend Ozzie makes the best sambal (hot sauce). The variety of spices, onion, garlic and peppers he uses make this a super tasty and very hot sauce, yet by adding fruit like mango, apple and/or strawberries Ozzie's Hotta Fyah also has a sweet aftertaste.
Ozzie was asked by the Crustacean fest to brew a special batch of sambal. And a special brew needs a special label. The Crustacean is a punk/crust/crossover festival and Ozzie's a devout fan of punk and hardcore, so the label had to reflect that. Drew much of my inspiration from the great Pushead (Brian Schroeder) - an American graphic artist known for his album covers and other merchandise for punk and metal bands (Metallica among others) - Suicidal Tendencies (crossover band from Venice Beach, CA) and the "cholo" subculture.
I made various designs but decided to declutter it because the label size kept getting smaller. It was intended to be 10x10cm at first but it ended up being only 4x4cm. The small blue design ended up rather well. Ozzie keeps the larger designs for future projects.
